Calling All Reader Friends!

Hello! So, as part of my 2015 Reading Challenge, I will need to read a trilogy. There are plenty of trilogies I’ve LOVED, but I’m so partial to contemporary that I’ll admit I’ve fallen way behind on most of the popular trilogies out right now. Which means I need your help!

I’ll likely read all of these trilogies sooner or later, but for some reason I am having difficulty choosing a good one for this challenge. The challenge is that I have to read all three, and with a lot of trilogies I am just not hooked enough on the first book to go through two more. I need a trilogy that is awesome all the way through. Something with a tingly romance and lots of back-and-forth will-they-won’t-they fun. Something that zips right through and doesn’t drag. Here are the trilogies I am currently considering:

UNDER THE NEVER SKY by Veronica Rossi

THE GRISHA series by Leigh Bardugo

DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE series by Laini Taylor

Now I need your input!

Which of these trilogies do I just HAVE to readrightnowOMG? Did I miss a different trilogy that is so incredible I should just chuck this whole list? What trilogies do you love?

The only one I’ve read is DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE. It doesn’t drag, but I wouldn’t say it’s zippy either, especially the third book. Lots of descriptions (occasionally too much). The romance isn’t a will-they-won’t-they, but they are separated for certain reasons I can’t explain without spoiling. Based on what you’re looking for, not sure this is the right one to pick up this year. It’s beautifully written, but there is a lot of death, anguish, and sad.

Have you read the HEX HALL trilogy? I wasn’t crazy about the third book, but the first two are VERY quick reads with lots of LOL moments and the romance is push and pull.

I haven’t read HEX HALL, I will definitely check it out! Thanks! 🙂

I did read a short story by Laini Taylor and it was so beautiful, but yeah, I can see how three novels worth of that might not be super fast-paced.

I can’t advise you in that since I read different types of trilogies but my thought is to try some lesser known books once in a while. It will give you insight to new styles of writing you would otherwise never have encountered.

The only one I’ve read is Laini Taylor’s and I LOVED it beyond all reason. I seriously cried when it ended. It definitely does have slower pacing than most YA (well, not the first book) but it’s just gorgeous and so emotional and well-written.
I’ve heard excellent things about the Lumatere Chronicles, though. Also, I did read Shadow and Bone and found it lackluster, so I didn’t continue to series.

Thanks for your thoughts! I am torn about starting on Laini Taylor’s books because I like faster paced books but I did read a short story by her in the anthology MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME, and I was enthralled.

One trilogy I love is the “Blood Sucking Fiends” trilogy by Christopher Moore. The other titles in the series are: “Bite Me,” and “You Suck.” They’re HILARIOUS! And full of vampires and their ethereal beauty and eternal mystery. I highly recommend listening to these because one of my favorite characters of all time, Abby Normal, is in books 2 and 3, and the narrator nails her voice. It’s not YA, but it’s an awesome trilogy.

    • Crystal says:

Thanks! I will definitely take that under consideration! I love the idea of funny vampire books, and I’ve seen these while browsing in the book store but I didn’t know they were a trilogy.
