Thankful for: (I’m Really Bad at This!)

November 1st I was so full of ambition, but slowly time sapped away and here I am, December 3rd and trying to finish my month of thankfulness with SIX things to make up for missed posts.

Here goes…

1. Painkillers. Not the hard stuff, more like Tylenol and Aleve. They don’t always work, but I’m sort of afraid of the stronger stuff. If I can catch a migraine before it devolves into pure misery, these things can be a godsend.

2. My legs (and health in general, I suppose). As I trot up and down the stairs of our apartment building holding Jack and grocery bags and a diaper bag, etc., I am thankful that I barely have to think about it, and I hope I never take my legs for granted. Anything can happen and who knows, they may not be there one day and I will long for these halcyon days of living on the second floor.

3. Christmas movies. I can’t wait for all the Christmas lessons and cheesy goodness! These movies always feel like slipping into a pair of comfy pajamas.

4. My Christmas cards have been mailed out–on DECEMBER 2ND!!! I am on top of things this year (so far).

5. Travel. When I was in high school, one of my secret hobbies was plotting out the itinerary of my European backpacking trip. Sadly, I never did it. It all seemed too vast and expensive and impossible at the time. But, luckily, travel became a part of my life anyway–getting engaged in Italy, hiking up Cader Idris in Wales, wading at the base of a waterfall in the cloud forest of Ecuador, shopping at the Christmas markets in Germany. It’s been quite the adventure!

6. My kitty, Socks. I miss my sweet Neville, and I’m sad that his life was so short, but his passing made me realize how amazing it is that Socks has been with us NINE years. Through eight moves. That is a long time! He is curmudgeonly, so we thought he wouldn’t get a long with Jack, but we were so wrong. He is sweet and patient with Jack and Jack quickly learned to be gentle to the kitty. Their friendship is adorable.

And that wraps up my month of thankfulness! I’ve enjoyed sitting down here and there just to think about the things in life that make me happy, and it’s been a great reminder that I have SO MUCH to be thankful for.

What are you thankful for?
