One of my Ten Before Thirty goals is to finish the first draft of my current WIP, and what better way to do that than the Ready. Set. Write! summer writing intensive? Accountability is basically Kryptonite for slacking, so I am excited to participate this year and see how much I can accomplish when I know I’ll have to come face-to-face with my actual progress every Monday.
You can check out how it works here, but basically, every Monday I will update with a post about my goals for the week and confess how well (or not well) I did on the previous week’s goals. Starting today and ending August 25th.
Since this is the first week, I want to lay out my goals for the whole summer.
- Finish current WIP (PHANTASM) by July 28th. Current word count: 22,561. Final expected word count: 60,000.
- Words per week, through the week of July 28th: 4,680. It sounds like a ton, but that’s why it’s called a writing INTENSIVE, right? It’s still well under 1,000 words/day.
- Once current WIP draft is finished, begin work on one of the two WIPs I love but put on the back-burner (either MELT YOUR FACE or THE VAGABOND LIFE OF WILDER BRIGGS).
- Words per week, through the week of August 25th: 3,000. More manageable, for sure, but still a bit of a stretch for me.
And that’s it! If I make my goal every week, I will have written 49,440 words during this writing intensive. I’ll probably have to confine all blogging and commenting to Mondays, skip some movie nights with the hubs and take advantage of every nap time, but if I can manage it, this will be one productive summer!
So, this week, my goal is 4,680 words. Ready. Set. Write!
Are you participating in Ready. Set. Write!? If so, I’d love to hear about your goals!
