This week I got quite a bit of writing done! My old self would be unimpressed, but my new mommy self is ridic proud to have written 4,324 brand new shiny words on my current WIP. Hold for applause.
I had been struggling to start most days, but after seeing this blog post by Kris Atkins which noted her 100 words/day goal, I felt a renewed zeal. 100 words is nothing! Super easy! I can totally fit 100 words in during nap time and after baby bedtime. It helped that my work was up for critique with my writing group, too, so I had extra incentive. And after I got 100 words, on some days, I kept going. Going and going and going. My story is slowly coming together and it feels very satisfying. It reminds me, weirdly, of that Johnny Cash song, “One Piece at a Time”–
The first day I got me a fuel pump
And the next day I got me an engine and a trunk
Then I got me a transmission and all of the chrome
The little things I could get in my big lunchbox
Like nuts, an’ bolts, and all four shocks
But the big stuff we snuck out in my buddy’s mobile home
Even with two awful days consumed by a migraine, I far exceeded 700 words for the week.
Yay for writing!
Have you set any writing goals for yourself this week? Did you meet them?
