hahaha, oh god i LOVE unnecessary quotation marks. The chinese restaurants seem to have the best ones!

My grandpa had a big garage sale in his 4 car garage/shop and he hung signs up all over the place that said

    NO “SMOKING”

Haha! No “smoking,” like when it’s cold out and you puff out air so that it looks like smoke? Or “smoking” with candy cigarettes? 🙂

I worked for a local newspaper for almost 5 years, and we got unnecessary quotes all the time when we got submissions, both handwritten and typed. I’ve always wondered what the origin of that strange habit is.

I get the idea that they are meant to supply emphasis of some kind… like how Internet culture has begun to *emphasize* like that.

      I still think it’s hilarious though 🙂

HA! I love unnecessary quotes! I especially that “fish” is in quotations. Is it really fish? Is it a fish-like product? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks for the laugh!

I HATE unnecessary quotation marks. Drives. Me. Nuts. We had a sign at one of my old jobs that said, “This door to remain locked after 6 pm.” in quotation marks. And I thought, “Are we quoting someone? And if so, where’s the credit?”
Thanks for sharing that link! I have a feeling it’s going to be my new favorite time-suck.
